our history

The Skating Club of the Finger Lakes was established in 1987, and our home ice for figure skating is the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena located at SUNY Geneseo (1 College Circle). Our season runs from October to March, divided into two 8-week sessions, where we are dedicated to providing ice skating lessons for both adults and children. We utilize the USA Basic Skills Learn to Skate Program offered by U.S. Figure Skating, the national governing body for figure skating in the United States.

Whether you are new to the sport or a seasoned skater, our Club warmly welcomes you.

Skaters are organized into small groups for lessons based on their level of ability, with a minimum age requirement of four years old. Our coaches offer 25 minutes of instruction, after which skaters can use the remaining ice time to practice the skills they’ve learned.

To ensure you have an enjoyable experience, you will need a pair of skates (not provided by the Club), gloves, and a willingness to try something new!

The Skating Club of the Finger Lakes is maintained by dedicated volunteers. We are always looking for additional help and would be thrilled for you to join our volunteer team to help sustain the Club well into the future.

Mission Statement: The purpose of the Skating Club of the Finger Lakes is to promote the sport of ice skating in Livingston County and surrounding areas at a reasonable cost to its members.
